Fast Gas Scooters  

Fast Gas Scooters are scooters that can get you to where you want to go in a hurry.  Although individual people may disagree on what the optimum speed should be for a scooter to qualify as a fast one.  I would say anything that can be used on the highway could be described as a fast gas scooter.  To do this in the U.S., the scooter must go at least 85mph.  Since most 150cc scooters top out at 60 to 65mph, this means that to find fast gas scooters you must look for ones with engines larger than 150cc.  Here, we take a look at the top scooter companies and see what they have to offer in terms of optimum speeds: 

Honda Scooters 

Honda has several scooters that fit the bill as fast gas scooters.  The Honda Helix which has 244cc engine is the slowest of these speedsters.  It has a top speed of about 75mph which makes it just fast enough for highway use.  However, Honda Scooters also have two other scooters which provide even faster speeds.  The Honda Reflex has a 249cc engine and it has a top speed of 80 to 85 mph.  There are a number of people who are really impressed with this scooter and believe it to be Honda’s finest.  However, the heavyweight speed title for Honda scooters goes to the Honda Silver Wing which has a gigantic engine at 582cc and can reach top speeds of 110 mph. 

Vespa Scooters 

Vespa has a wide number of offerings that fit the bill.  The slowest of the bunch is the Granturismo which has a 200cc engine and has top speeds of 70 to 75mph.  This may be just fast enough for highway use, but is probably pushing it.  Other Vespa scooter models which have top speeds of at least 75 include: 

• GTS 250 which has a 250cc engine and has a top speed of 75mph 
• GTV 250 which has a 250cc engine and has a top speed of 75mph,  
• GT60 which has 250cc engine and has top speeds of 75 to 80mph.   

In addition, Vespa Scooters own parent company has several Piaggio models that are plenty fast: 

• MP3 250 has a 250cc engine and has top speeds of 75 to 80mph. 
• MP3 400 has a top speed of 90 to 95mph. 
• MP3 500 has a 492cc engine and has a top speed of 90mph. 
• BV 250cc engine and top speeds of 75 to 80mph.  
• BV 500 has a 460cc engine and a top speed of 95mph. 
• X9 has a 500cc engine and a top speed of 98mph. 

Yamaha Scooters 

Yamaha scooters also has some fast scooters of their own.  The Majesty has a 395cc engine and a top speed of 90mph and the TMAX has a 499cc engine and top speeds of 100 to 105mph.  These should be more than fast enough for most scooter drivers. 

Aprilia Scooters 

Aprilia Scooters which is another Italian scooter company has its own version that it has introduced to the US market.  The SportCity 250 Scooter.  It has a 250cc engine and can reach top speeds of 75 to 80mph. 

As you can see there are a number of different fast scooters to choose from and you can choose from some of the very best scooter companies: Vespa, Honda, Yamaha, and Aprilia.  Also, if you were studying the above list, you will notice that almost all the fast gas scooters have engines of 250cc or higher.  Interestingly enough, many smaller engine scooters can actually be tweaked to go faster using racing kits.  However, to stay in compliance with the law, we recommend stick with the models that are fast as is.  In this case, this is mainly the 250cc engines or higher.
